Let’s imagine that we have a set of numbers: 3,7,5,9,63, 7, 5, 9, 6. The 'mean' (also called the average) of this set is a single number which represents a "typical" value within this set. The mean is usually written with the symbols xˉ\bar{x} or μ\mu.

To calculate the mean of a set, we use the following formula:
